About the Presenters

Dr. Hoffman, is a professor in Athletic Training and Kinesiology at Oregon State University. He joined the Oregon State University faculty in 2000 with primary teaching responsibilities in the Athletic Training Education Program. He started as an emergency responder in his youth and has maintained his passion for emergency medicine ever since.  Academically, his early career scholarship focused on spinal control mechanisms associated with lower extremity injuries. More recently his scholarship has transitioned to studying health and wellness in wildland firefighters. During wildfire season in the pacific northwest he provides medical services on wildland incidents as a dual credentialed AT/EMT-I where he has been the first AT employed by the US Forest Service in this capacity.  Additionally, he is a Lieutenant and EMS Coordinator at Adair Rural and Rescue in Oregon.  He has served as Associate Dean in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences and Vice Provost of International Programs. He has received Fellowship recognition by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Athletic Trainers Association and his alma Matter, Indiana University, honored him with their Distinguished Alumni Award.
