Micki Collins serves as LSU’s Associate Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine, a position she was promoted to during the summer of 2023. 

As LSU’s Associate Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine, Collins oversees healthcare for LSU’s 450 student-athletes as well as managing the athletic department’s sports medicine team, which includes 25 athletic trainers, more than 10 physicians, massage therapists, chiropractors, and physical therapists.

Collins’ role with LSU’s sports medicine team expanded with the school’s new champion healthcare partnership with Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. Collins played a critical role in the integration and continuity of medical care for LSU student-athletes during this transition.

As head of LSU’s sports medicine team, Collins is responsible for ensuring elite medical care for LSU student-athletes with a strategic plan for hiring and supervising a highly-skilled and diverse athletic training and medical staff.

She’s also charged with managing a multi-million-dollar medical budget that provides student-athletes and specialized medical providers access to state-of-the-art innovative care and ensures the safe and expedited return of student-athletes to sport after injury.

Her work also includes a collaborative effort with the academic side of the university, as well as health and wellness departments within LSU Athletics, to provide a holistic approach to student-athlete healthcare.

Collins spent 18 years working as the head athletic trainer for the LSU women’s basketball team before joining the athletic training staff for the football team in 2019. She was part of five Final Fours with the LSU women’s basketball team and then played a key role in LSU’s football national championship in 2019. Her first role at LSU was that of athletic trainer for the volleyball team.

She worked daily with the LSU football team before assuming her new role of leading the sports medicine team in 2023.

A 2022 inductee into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame, Collins also taught in LSU’s Athletic Training curriculum and was a clinical supervisor of the students in the athletic training program.

Collins has a master’s degree in sports pedagogy from LSU and earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Nebraska in 2000. While at Nebraska, Collins worked as a student trainer for the nationally-ranked Cornhusker football team and for the women’s basketball and gymnastics teams.

The Chariton, Iowa, native is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), having completed her requirements in April 2000. She has also worked at a variety of camps at Nebraska and LSU throughout her career.

Collins is the recipient of the 2016 Sue Gunter Award and SEC’s 2017 Chris Patrick Award. She and her husband, Ken, have two children – son, Granger and daughter, Gia.
